Acupuncture

The practice of Acupuncture is thought to have begun with the discovery that the stimulation of specific areas on the skin affects the functioning of certain organs in the body. Over the last two thousand years it has developed into a system of medicine that restores and maintains health by the insertion of fine needles into specific points in the body. Through inserting the needles in specific points we can improve the flow of the Qi (the Life Energy), the Circulation, the Immune system and the function of the organs in the body. As a result of these being improved the person will restore his health and well being.

Acupuncture was introduced to the Western World in the early seventies and since then its great potential in the treatment of disease has gained an ever growing recognition in the West. Today it is widely used with great success to treat a variety of conditions as diverse as musculoskeletal pain, anxiety and skin disease.

Biomechanic Podiatry

Biomechanics – What is it?

Many aches or pains in the feet, legs or lower back can be attributable to your “biomechanics”.  But what does this mean?

Rarely do we find that the left and right sides of our body are symmetrical. This is equally so for our feet and legs. Additionally, many of us have mild deformities in our feet and legs, such as bowed legs or fallen arches..

This means that when we stand, walk or run our body has to compensate for these anomalies. It is these compensations that put structures such as muscles, joints, ligaments and tendons under undue strain as they begin functioning in an abnormal or compromised manner.  Over time the structures can become inflamed or injured.

A Biomechanics assessment is an investigation into your lower limb function identifying what happens in your legs and feet when you walk and stand .  Once the problems have been identified a tailor made treatment plan can be created to improve your symptoms. This may involve one or more of the following:

  • Exercises to stretch or strengthen muscles
  • Insoles / Orthoses – specially made devices for you to wear inside your shoe to control, realign or cushion the abnormalities.
  • Footwear advice

Bowen Therapy

This is a gentle bodywork technique that safely and effectively addresses many common health conditions.  It has helped thousands of people worldwide get relief from every day pain, injury and ill-health, and is fast becoming recognised for its ability to get results.

WHAT HAPPENS IN TREATMENT?
The therapist performs a series of precise, gentle ‘rolling’ movements using finger and thumb over muscles, tendons and ligaments at key points.  The moves are interspersed with short rests.  No force or undue pressure is needed.  The experience is deeply relaxing as the body responds with healing processes which have been stimulated.  Sometimes people fall asleep.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Although no one knows exactly how it works, there are many theories, and results have shown many conditions will readily improve with these simple moves.  Most people see results after just one session.  After 2 or 3 sessions a large percentage of people receive substantial if not complete relief from health problems.

WHAT CAN IT DO FOR YOU?

The therapist will see muscles and tendons relax, changes in temperature and appearance of skin, the patient going into a deeply relaxed state. Inflammation and swelling may be eased. Poorly functioning muscles may be ‘woken up’ and energised as they function more freely. The patient themselves may feel changes going on such as tingling in response to a move. An increased thirst can appear showing a need to drink more water after a treatment. Thousands of people have given testimony to positive effects on their health through the stress reduction and relaxation induced by the treatment. Many things are seen in clinic that relate to every day pain and injury, chronic health issues, sports performance, infertility, pregnancy care and childhood complaints.

Chinese Herb Medicine

Although less well known to the Western World than Acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine is the most basic and important part of Chinese medicine.

With its tradition of over two thousand years, it has been proven to be a very effective and safe form of medicine. It is especially effective in treating skin condition’s, gynaecological conditions, gastrointestinal problems and fatigue.

Like Acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine is a holistic form of medicine: it treats the root of the problem as well as the symptoms. Therefore, unlike most western medications, herbs are rarely given for life and can always be discontinued after the problem has improved.

All the herbs used in this clinic are regulated and supervised. They are of the highest quality and do not contain any parts of wild endangered species. Herbal medicine can be used by itself of in conjunction with Acupuncture. Over the last few years, as a result of the great popularity of Chinese Herbs some individuals and organizations that have bought herbs in China and sold them on the high street in the U.K. with no regard to local rules and Regulations. It has been discovered that in a few instances these products contained toxic materials and pharmaceuticals. These rare cases have been much publicised in the media giving Chinese Herbs and unjustly bad name.

It is very important to understand that this could not be further from the truth. Chinese herbal medicines when practiced properly are very safe and very healthy. The herbs used in our clinic are pure and of the highest quality. They all go through vigorous quality control tests before dispensing to the patient. There is absolutely no risk of any toxins of Pharmaceutical mixes with them.

Chiropratic – McTimoney

A gentle technique suitable for all ages from the very young to the old and frail.

Chiropractic specialises in the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of bio-mechanical disorders of the musculoskeletal system, particularly those involving the spine and their effects on the nervous system.

This is a system of gentle manipulation to treat disorders of the joints and muscles using only the practitioner's hands. At each treatment, the skeletal system of the body is assessed and pelvic bones are realigned before the spine is adjusted on each vertebrae. Pain, discomfort and stiffness relating to the joints and bones; muscular aches and pains; sports injuries; migraine; whiplash and trapped nerves can all be treated with this gentle form of Chiropractic treatment.

Patient Satisfaction
In 1997, patient satisfaction of McTimoney Chiropractic was measured in a survey commissioned by the UK's McTimoney Chiropractic Association:

  • 89% of patients rated their satisfaction with the McTimoney treatment as either extremely or very satisfied
  • 85% felt that it had been very beneficial in the management of their painful condition
  • 93% of patients had recommended the McTimoney treatment to their friends and family

Chiropractic is an established method of adjusting the bones and joints of the body to improve the function of the skeleton, and through this process help the nervous system to work more efficiently. Chiropractic is used to treat and prevent back, neck, shoulder and other joint, nerve and muscle problems and aims to relieve pain and discomfort and increase mobility.

Chiropractic is used to treat both recent injuries and longstanding problems; however, early treatment presents the opportunity to stop minor symptoms worsening. Taking a preventative approach to health through regular maintenance care can optimise the nervous system and reduce the likelihood of injury during sport or other activities.

Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture

Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture is a painless, non-surgical method of reducing the signs of the aging process.Vanessa Jewell is one of a few practitioners that have been trained in this specialised technique by leading expert Virginia Doran of New York. In addition to the many and varied health promoting effects throughout the body that regular acupuncture bestows, Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture aims to correct the signs of aging by both local treatment and by working on the underlying causes of ageing.

Facial Rejuvenation acupuncture helps to improve muscle tone and dermal contraction especially in the face and neck. It has been shown to increase collagen production and aids in its dispersal, which helps to firm the skin and fill out wrinkles. Bags and sagging around the eyes, face and neck can be significantly reduced and toned up.

Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncturehelps to improve the metabolism, resulting in reduced puffiness andhelps to regulate hormones to improve conditions like acne and dry skin. By increasing blood, lymph and qi circulation the complexion improves, healthy facial colouring can be restored and there can be a tightening of the pores.

Stress and habitual expressions, which are so visible on the face, are transformed resulting in a remarkably younger, calmer, and less worn looking face. All these very obvious visual benefits manifest in the appearance while many pre-existing health conditions are cleared up because acupuncture works by treating the whole body and addressing the underlying causes of aging and disease.

While not a replacement for surgery, Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture is an excellent alternative. It is far less costly than cosmetic surgery and is safe, virtually painless, has no side effects or risk of disfigurement.

Homeopathy

Homeopathy is a system of medicine which is based on treating the individual with highly diluted substances given mainly in tablet form, which triggers the body’s natural system of healing. Based on their experience of their symptoms, a homeopath will match the most appropriate medicine to the patient.

It works on the principle of “like cures like” - that is, a substance that would cause symptoms in a healthy person is used to treat those same symptoms in illness. For example, one remedy that might be considered in a person suffering from insomnia is Coffea (coffee), which is known to cause sleeplessness in its crude form.

A homeopath will build up a jigsaw puzzle-style picture of the patient, taking into account all of their symptoms and how they experience them, before prescribing a remedy.

The manufacture of homeopathic medicines involves dilution and ‘succussion’ (a specific form of vigorous shaking). The raw extracts (from plants or animals) or triturations (from minerals and salts) are made into a 'tincture' with alcohol. This is then diluted with water and succussed many times, often to the point where we would expect there to be no molecules of the original substance left.

Science cannot yet explain the precise mechanism of action of homeopathic medicines, but research “in vitro” has shown that they are able to cause biological effects. For example, the hormone thyroxine prepared as a homeopathic ‘30C’ dilution can slow down the process of metamorphosis of tadpoles into frogs.

A service evaluation at the Bristol Homeopathic Hospital recorded the outcome of homeopathic treatment in over 6,500 consecutive patients. In this study, carried out over a six-year period, 70% of patients reported an improvement in their health.3

The best clinical results were seen in the treatment of children with eczema and asthma, and adults with inflammatory bowel disease, irritable bowel syndrome, menopausal problems and migraine. Other conditions which improved after homeopathic treatment included arthritis, depression and chronic fatigue syndrome.

Homeopathic medicines are non toxic, have no side effects and can be safely used alongside conventional medicines.

Hopi Ear Candles

The healing properties of the candle have been known for hundreds of years to the Hopi tribe. The treatment is gentle and relaxing and is great for relieving compacted ear wax, stress and helps with eliminating snoring and clearing the sinuses. The candle is placed over the ear orifice and ignited. It is only allowed to burn to within 4 inches of the end of the candle. As it burns it produces a gentle local heat. The warm air combined with the oil and herbs soften the wax and draw it into the base of the candle. The candle is then removed and the ear and surrounding area is then massaged. The treatment is repeated on the other ear and then a complete facial massage is carried out, paying particular attention to the sinus areas.

Hypnotherapy

Hypnotherapy is based on the fact that there are two minds: the Conscious and the Unconscious. The Conscious mind helps you make every-day decisions and supports you in reacting to every-day situations through your behaviours and habits. Once a decision is made in the Conscious mind, your Unconscious runs the program in the most efficient way it can. The problem is that the decision made by the Conscious mind may have been influenced by the environment, your bad experiences, and your perceptions. That means that you may be afraid to speak in public, afraid of spiders, have a habit of snacking or overeating, or believe that smoking relaxes you…they are all behaviours that your Unconscious mind has been ‘programmed’ with over the years and is now stuck in the reality of that behaviour, habit, thinking pattern etc.

Here is the good news: As your Unconscious mind has learned one way of behaving, it can learn another! Yes, you can free yourself from any habit, behaviour or thinking pattern that you no longer wish to identify yourself with. Through Hypnosis, if used by a skilled Hypnotherapist who can access your Unconscious mind directly, you can change out-of-date program that your mind is used to running...it’s that simple!

Treatments are available for the following conditions: Depression, Smoking and other dependencies, Overeating, Phobias, Stress, Confidence, IBS, and many more…

NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming)

Neuro refers to the brain/mind and nervous system through which each experience is gathered via our five senses.

Linguistic is about how we order and give meaning to experience through language, symbols, words & metaphors.

Programming refers to our ability to organize these parts (sights, sounds, sensations, smells tastes, and symbols or words) in a way that creates our own individual experience of life.

NLP Life Coaching NLP Life Coaching is an emerging and rapidly growing field. A Life Coach is similar (for the sake of familiarity) to a football coach. The football coach coaches his players to improve, change and develop so that they can become better footballers. A Life Coach coaches people to enable them to improve, change and develop aspects of their lives (but without the shouting running and press ups!).

What can I do for you?
I don’t have all the answers. But I can start by helping you take the next step.
I can help you - by beginning to think about and talk about your problem in new ways. To begin breaking up the old patterns of thought, to reframe them to help you get unstuck.

I can help you - to focus on the positive end results, so that the boundaries that were boxing you in begin to dissolve and disappear.

I can help you - move through and beyond the problem, to being the person you want to be. I can help you begin to get the results you want in your life.

I can help you - move through uncertainty so that you can be more productive, more resourceful and more in-tune and comfortable with yourself and those people who are important to you. To help you in living your life the way you really want to.

So there are just two questions I want to ask you to consider right now. The first question is;

“What do you want to work through with me, right now?” What is the one issue or problem that is most pressing in your life, that is causing your the most pain, right now that I can help you work through?

And the second question is;

How do you want to BE … feeling … differently in your life right now?

What do you want to be doing, feeling, seeing and experiencing?

Then all you need to do is take the next step and either call or email to set up your private appointment so I can begin to help you take the next step to being the person you want, and were meant to be.
At this time I am even offering an introductory free 20 minute consultation.
