The practice of Acupuncture is thought to have begun with the discovery that the stimulation of specific areas on the skin affects the functioning of certain organs in the body. Over the last two thousand years it has developed into a system of medicine that restores and maintains health by the insertion of fine needles into specific points in the body. Through inserting the needles in specific points we can improve the flow of the Qi (the Life Energy), the Circulation, the Immune system and the function of the organs in the body. As a result of these being improved the person will restore his health and well being.

Acupuncture was introduced to the Western World in the early seventies and since then its great potential in the treatment of disease has gained an ever growing recognition in the West. Today it is widely used with great success to treat a variety of conditions as diverse as musculoskeletal pain, anxiety and skin disease.

BWRT (Brain Working Recursive Therapy)

BWRT is a modern and effective therapy that can help people to reduce and eliminate strong negative feelings. If there are certain thoughts or memories that trigger discomfort, anger, anxiety or fear etc, then BWRT can work to deactivate those feelings.

One of the main principles behind BWRT is that the subconscious part of the brain literally acts as a warehouse, containing all our experiences, memories and previous reactions to everything that has occurred in our lifetime. Whenever we enter a situation the neural pathways in the brain fire up and search our personal databases of stored information to see what we need to do. Depending on our experiences, our brains will then decide on the next step.

We react in certain ways because we have learned this behaviour from our past experiences. Our brains have to work in this way so that we can make sense of the world we live in. Otherwise we would not be able to recognise anything, not even a cup or a chair, for example.

So, whilst this huge databank of information is extremely useful to us, there are times when things get stored in the wrong place and we have an unwanted negative reaction. This is where BWRT can make changes, so that the neural pathways in the brain can be re-routed to more comfortable or neutral responses. Many clients are surprised and amazed at how quickly BWRT works. Sometimes one session can fix even long standing problems.

BWRT can treat are listed below, but if you don’t see your issue listed we may still be able to help:

  • Fears and Phobias
  • PTSD
  • General Anxiety
  • Relationship Issues
  • Unresolved Grief
  • Exam Stress
  • Interview Anxiety
  • Driving Anxiety

Chinese Herbal Medicine

Although less well known to the Western World than Acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine is the most basic and important part of Chinese medicine.

With its tradition of over two thousand years, it has been proven to be a very effective and safe form of medicine. It is especially effective in treating skin condition’s, gynaecological conditions, gastrointestinal problems and fatigue.

Like Acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine is a holistic form of medicine: it treats the root of the problem as well as the symptoms. Therefore, unlike most western medications, herbs are rarely given for life and can always be discontinued after the problem has improved.

All the herbs used in this clinic are regulated and supervised. They are of the highest quality and do not contain any parts of wild endangered species. Herbal medicine can be used by itself of in conjunction with Acupuncture. Over the last few years, as a result of the great popularity of Chinese Herbs some individuals and organizations that have bought herbs in China and sold them on the high street in the U.K. with no regard to local rules and Regulations. It has been discovered that in a few instances these products contained toxic materials and pharmaceuticals. These rare cases have been much publicised in the media giving Chinese Herbs and unjustly bad name.

It is very important to understand that this could not be further from the truth. Chinese herbal medicines when practiced properly are very safe and very healthy. The herbs used in our clinic are pure and of the highest quality. They all go through vigorous quality control tests before dispensing to the patient. There is absolutely no risk of any toxins of Pharmaceutical mixes with them.

Chiropratic – McTimoney

A gentle technique suitable for all ages from the very young to the old and frail.

Chiropractic specialises in the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of bio-mechanical disorders of the musculoskeletal system, particularly those involving the spine and their effects on the nervous system.

This is a system of gentle manipulation to treat disorders of the joints and muscles using only the practitioner's hands. At each treatment, the skeletal system of the body is assessed and pelvic bones are realigned before the spine is adjusted on each vertebrae. Pain, discomfort and stiffness relating to the joints and bones; muscular aches and pains; sports injuries; migraine; whiplash and trapped nerves can all be treated with this gentle form of Chiropractic treatment.

Patient Satisfaction
In 1997, patient satisfaction of McTimoney Chiropractic was measured in a survey commissioned by the UK's McTimoney Chiropractic Association:

  • 89% of patients rated their satisfaction with the McTimoney treatment as either extremely or very satisfied
  • 85% felt that it had been very beneficial in the management of their painful condition
  • 93% of patients had recommended the McTimoney treatment to their friends and family

Chiropractic is an established method of adjusting the bones and joints of the body to improve the function of the skeleton, and through this process help the nervous system to work more efficiently. Chiropractic is used to treat and prevent back, neck, shoulder and other joint, nerve and muscle problems and aims to relieve pain and discomfort and increase mobility.

Chiropractic is used to treat both recent injuries and longstanding problems; however, early treatment presents the opportunity to stop minor symptoms worsening. Taking a preventative approach to health through regular maintenance care can optimise the nervous system and reduce the likelihood of injury during sport or other activities.

Counselling and Psychotherapy

Counselling offers a unique space - safe, regular, confidential - in which you can explore your own thoughts and feelings and prepare for a happier future. For some, this will be focussed on the here and now, whilst for others, understanding past hurts can help enormously in the present day.

Counselling can be an important part of a healthy coping strategy. Looking after your emotional health is just as important as looking after your physical health, although it can be the area that some people neglect until things become very hard to bear.

You might have coped for weeks, months or years with many areas of life, without needing extra support because you haven't felt you needed it. There may come a time when you realize that you have reached your limit, and that another pair of ears, to listen without criticism or judgement, combined with the skills of a fully-trained therapist, might just help you to move on in a happier and healthier way.

There is no 'typical profile' of a person who seeks counselling. Everyone is welcome regardless of race, gender, cultural background, sexual orientation, religion etc.

Starting counselling is an important step and it is worth taking time to choose the therapist to suit your needs. Please browse my website and see if you can find the answers to questions you might have. Do contact me if you would like to ask for more details, or to make an appointment to help decide if counselling is for you.

People often ask what type of things they can bring to counselling. There is no real definitive list, but I have highlighted below some of the areas in life that are presented on a frequent basis.

Are you wondering whether or not I could work with your particular needs?

Finger Free Reflexology

Finger free reflexology is a deep, yet very relaxing fast treatment. Rather than using the fingers and thumbs, as in traditional reflexology, the knuckles, ‘heel’ of the hands and base of the thumbs are utilised. This gives a full and deep treatment whilst using less pressure..

Hopi Ear Candling (Thermal Auricular Therapy)

Hopi ear candling is an effective and gentle treatment to help relieve compacted ear wax. The Hopi candles, which are made from cotton, are impregnated with beeswax, honey extracts and herbs, and are inserted into the ear canal with the furthermost end alight. The candle is allowed to burn down to a safe point before being extinguished. The candle acts as a chimney-effect, creating a vacuum, which helps impurities and wax to be released from the ear canal. The gentle warming vibration of the candle can massage the tympanic membrane and help clients to feel calm and peaceful.

Hopi candling can help with sinus related problems, headaches, cold symptoms, excessive ear wax, congestion, ear irritation and is a relaxing way to relieve stress.

Treatments also include a sinus drain – which is a pleasant facial massage which helps to remove toxins, encouraging blood flow and oxygen to the area and assisting lymphatic drainage. Facials can help skin feel healthy and rejuvenated.

Hypnotherapy – Solution Focused

Solution Focused Hypnotherapy is a powerful branch of hypnotherapy that uses a combination of hypnosis and psychology in order to promote health and wellbeing. Science and research come together to combine the very best procedures possible in order for interventions to be effective.

We recognise that solutions are found in the future, not in past or current conflicts. This being so, we can work together on your preferred outcomes, activating the power of your subconscious mind to assist you in making positive progress.

If we look at the world our ancient ancestors lived in, we will know that the environment was full of threats and danger. In that prehistoric age we needed our primitive emotional brains to be active in order to keep us safe. That same primitive part of our brain still does a good job in keeping us alert and safe but nowadays we have different types of threats – these may be relationship worries or work stress, for example. This kind of stress can build gradually until we suddenly find we are unable to cope. More and more we become victims of negative thoughts and emotions – and often the threat doesn't go away but becomes a habitual way of thinking, gradually eroding our self-esteem, confidence, control and happiness.

I offer a free initial consultation where we can discuss what your needs are and how I can help you step forwards into your preferred future.

Hypnotherapy is excellent for many conditions, including, but not limited to:
Anxiety IBS
Stress Anger management
Confidence Pain management
Quitting Smoking
Controlling drinking
Weight loss

Microblading is a semi permanent makeup procedure that allows the technician to recreate, correct and improve the appearance of the natural eyebrow. Clients often have gaps in their brows. Using a hand held tool, small incisions are made and ink is deposited, replacing the gaps with crisp, thin and natural looking hairs. A top up is then required 4-6 weeks afterwards to get the finished result. Microblading can also be done on the scalp to cover any bald patches.

How long does it last?
Every client is different; it can depend on skin type, age, medication and lifestyle. It usually lasts up to 12 months or longer.

A full consultation is included in the price. It is here we decided together with the client on the shape and colour best suited for them, working with the brow bone and the structure of the face.

Does it hurt?
I am fully insured and qualified to apply anaesthetic cream to my clients which numbs the area first

A deposit is requires to secure an appointment and a patch test is required 24 hours before treatment.

NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming)

NLP is the manual for the brain which was not, alas, provided along with one's Birth Certificate (LondonHealth)
NLP may be the most powerful vehicle for change in existence ... -- Modern Psychology
NLP could be the most important synthesis of knowledge about human communication to emerge since the sixties. -- Science Digest

Neuro refers to the brain/mind and nervous system through which each experience is gathered via our five senses.
Linguistic is about how we order and give meaning to experience through language, symbols, words & metaphors.
Programming refers to our ability to organize these parts (sights, sounds, sensations, smells tastes, and symbols or words) in a way that creates our own individual experience of life.

NLP Life Coaching is an emerging and rapidly growing field. A Life Coach is similar (for the sake of familiarity) to a football coach. The football coach coaches his players to improve, change and develop so that they can become better footballers. A Life Coach coaches people to enable them to improve, change and develop aspects of their lives (but without the shouting running and press ups!).

NLP Therapy is similar to counselling as it is a talking therapy, it is different because it does not encourage clients to stay in the pain of old hurts or traumas, it encourages them to look forward and move obstacles from their path in order to get the life they want. NLP is focussed on the present and the future while counselling is more focussed on the past.

NLP Therapists have a detailed map of the mind and a toolbox of techniques that can help you to move forward into a more powerful position in any area of your life.

NLP can help if you are:-

  • Stuck or lost
  • Going round in circles
  • Looking backwards more than forwards
  • Find someone or something is stopping you moving on
  • Confused
  • Frustrated and angry
  • Trying to please others but not happy in yourself
  • Worried about what is around the next corner
  • Feeling power-less rather than power-full
  • De-motivated
  • Self-critical or judgemental
  • Not smelling the roses or enjoying the journey
  • Off balance
Please contact me for more information or book an introductory session to discuss your individual requirements.

Reflexology works on the principle that reflex points in the feet correspond to every part of the body. By working on these points, blockages in the energy pathways are released, thereby promoting healing. The relaxation and release which accompany this treatment is beneficial to those with (and without) health problems in all age groups. Reflexology may help to revive energy allowing the body to restore well being.

Reiki means - Universal Life Force Energy, it came from Japan and has been practiced there for over 100 years.

Although we do not have an awareness of energy as part of western medicine, in many other parts of the world it is fully established as an effective way of working with health issues. Eastern medicine suggests that there an energy field created by all living things that surrounds us, penetrates us and connects us. This concept has a rich history around the world. In traditional Chinese philosophy and medicine this energy is called "Chi." Japanese mystics and martial artists call it "Ki." Indian yogis and sadhus call it "Prana" The Ancient Greeks called it "Pneuma." Jewish Kabbalists call it "Nefish." Muslims call it "Baraka." and the Polynesians call it "Mana."

Reiki is used for - stress and to top up the positive energy in the body, it encourages the body's own natural healing processes. In a similar way to acupuncture or reflexology Reiki can be used to release blockages and balance the whole energy system. Reiki focuses on the whole person with all their emotional and physical issues.

Reiki treatments are - an opportunity to lie down, relax, and listen to peaceful music, while the therapist places their hands gently on your body, allowing the positive loving energy to flow through the therapist and into your body to release imbalances and blockages. . Most patients report feeling relaxed during the treatment and calm yet energised after it.

Please contact me for more information or a relaxing Reiki session.
